Caldbeck's Friendly Friday Films 2022-23

Here's our new programme of varied films for the coming season. There's something for everyone, but do come to them all and be surprised!

This is a provisional programme and may have to be changed, so please keep an eye open for any updates.

All being well, we will be restarting refreshments after the film. We also hope to arrange a film meal as they have been so popular in the past.

All films are at Caldbeck Village Hall with a 7.30pm start time.

2022/23 Programme

September 16th: Parasite

With all the ingredients of a classic film — humour, sadness, excitement, despair and hope – this is an outstanding film. The slow take-over of a rich family by the poor does a great job of displaying the contrast between abject poverty and extreme wealth and how this plays out and ends in tragedy.

October 14th: After Love

Aleem Khan's moving drama asks us to consider how well we know the people we share our lives with. A woman leading a quiet life (a stunning performance by Joanna Scanlan) finds her marriage is not at all as she thinks. She sets out to find more about the life she has been sharing.

November 11th: Compartment No 6

An enigmatic love affair on the train to Murmansk

December 9th: West Side Story

This Christmas, experience the 2019 Oscar-winning musical masterpiece. Inspired by Shakespeare's classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, set in a vibrant New York and directed by Steven Speilberg.

January 13th: Parallel Mothers

Penélope Cruz is sensational in Almodóvar's latest film which juxtaposes motherhood and the sorrows and secrets of the civil war.

February 10th: Petite Maman

This award-winning film is a compelling mix of fairytale, ghost story and rite-of-passage journey. The film is a warm bundle of cinematic magic which never gets too bogged down in tedious specifics but keeps a light but firm touch.

March 10th: Flee

Distinctive fusion of documentary and animation from Danish film-maker Jonas Poher Rasmussen, outlining the journey and heartache of a gay Afghan man living in Copenhagen, having left his home country as a 10-year-old.  This film is an irresistibly moving and engrossing story which made number 4 in the best films of last year.
